A management and communication console for restaurant groups: manager logs, preshifts, tastings, tip sheets, inventory, recipes and repairs, reported on the phone managers already carry, reviewed by leadership at any time.
The question
It answers one question, every morning, without phone calls or emails: “Are my restaurants being run the way I want?” Everything you need to know about how the last 24 hours went is right there, in one place.
Candor and transparency are how you ensure consistency and quality. Powerful tools that ask the right questions are how you get managers who think like owners.
You can have a manager on the floor or a manager behind a laptop, not both. Every record in The Pass is filed from the phone already in their pocket, so their attention stays where it belongs: on your guests.
The owner’s screen, 8 am.
Five things need eyes; every house below.
Eight modules, one shape
| Module | Replaces today | Who files it | Expected |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manager log | A CRM that can be accessed only with a laptop | Manager on duty | Every shift |
| Tastings | A group text with a photo in it | Chef, with the tasters | One per service |
| Tip sheet | A spreadsheet per shift | Closing manager | Every pooled shift |
| Punch list | Texts, emails, whiteboards, notebooks | Anyone; ops approves | Open until fixed |
| Inventory | Spreadsheets that don’t flag errors | Chef and GM | Weekly |
| Recipes & PQI | Shared docs in several places, several versions | Culinary | Standing reference |
| Preshift | Printed plans marked in pen, verbal notes | Manager on duty | Every service |
| Owner’s view | Phone calls, texts, emails | Auto-updated in real time | Visible 24/7 |
How it’s built
Two managers’ records read the same. Every prompt can be left honestly blank.
Nothing is reported missing until the console knows what was expected: shifts, services, tastings per house.
A record can’t be edited once filed. Corrections are addenda with their own author and time. A tip sheet becomes a pay record; a punch list becomes a building’s history.
Late things show as time elapsed: on time, due, late. A reminder to the manager first; the ops director hears when the limit passes.
The tip pool is split front and back of house by the house rule, then allocated by points and hours. A sheet that doesn’t balance can’t be filed.
Print-ready preshifts for the wall by the pass, CSV for payroll and the accountant, recipe cards for the line.
Starting
A pilot with one director, one chef, and one GM. Manager logs first, then modules in whatever order makes most sense for your property.
Roles, shifts, tip splits, the quote rule, what counts as late: set per house, never written into the software.
Each group gets its own database and its own site. Nothing is shared. A group that leaves takes its records with it.
Two guys who know your world
